4.1 背景介绍
🐶1.EVE
🙈今天我们的女主角EVE终于登场啦。她的全名是“Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator”（外星植被评估员）。她被一艘宇宙飞船送到回地球执行任务，勘测地球上的植物，以确定是否适合人类生存。在她的右臂上装有扫描仪和可收回式电离枪，后者可以帮助她应对一些小麻烦。
🐶2.飞船出场
🙈送EVE回来的飞船也是BNL公司的宇宙飞船，它以公理号为基地，是负责在宇宙范围内接送EVE等其他机器人的运输飞船，EVE等机器人存储在它的可升降外壳中，到达目的之后，升降外壳下降，打开，飞船还可以激活机器人，然后返回基地。等到机器人完成任务后又会返回接收机器人回到公理号。
4.2熟词生义
🐶1.「spot」在文中是指“斑点”。（它还可以表示“地点”。）

4.3句子解析
🐶1.WALL•E was so taken by the one red spot /that he didn’t notice /that many other red spots were coming toward him from all sides.
🙈「was so taken by the one red spot that 」这里的主要结构运用了“so…that”句型，表示“如此…以至于”。be taken by 表示“被…吸引”，常常作为固定短语使用。这里表示WALL•E被红色的斑点深深地吸引。
🙈「that many … from all sides」这里是didn’t notice 的内容，也就是我们的小机器人WALL·E忽视的情况~
🙈WALL•E工作结束后回到卡车前。突然注意到了一个红点。他被红点深深吸引以至于没有注意到更多的红点从四面八方朝着他而来。
🐶2.As suddenly as the noise had started, things quieted down.
🙈「As suddenly as」这是as+形容词/副词+as的用法，表示“和…一样”。这里表示事物安静下来和噪声开始一样的突然，可以理解为这个噪声来的突然去得也突然。用这个句式举个例子: E.g. As soon as possible I will come. 我会尽快过来。
🙈由前文可知，一艘宇宙飞船从天而降，WALL•E赶快挖洞躲起来，只能听到一阵突然而来的噪声。这声音来得突然去得也突然，周围的事物突然又安静下来了。

🙈「bottom end」其中「end」表示“端点”，这里指飞船的底部末端

🐶4.With nowhere to hide, WALL•E made the best of what was available.
🙈「With nowhere to hide」这是with+名词+to do ，表示造成某种局面的原因。这里是用来说明WALL·E当前所遭遇的状况。
🙈「make the best of」相当于“充分利用”。「what was available」相当于“任何可以被利用的”，在这里用来说明WALL·E充分利用的具体内容~

🙈因为一个人在地球生活了几百年了，WALL•E并不习惯有来访者，所以他也不确定将会发生什么。
🐶6.The spaceship set a large, metal object down on the ground. The object began to open, its outer casing removing itself in sections. It was as if something valuable was stored inside.
🙈通读三句话，作为先后发生的动作，这三句话是在表达了同一件事情发生的过程。有时我们针对单独一句话会出现不理解的情况，这种情况下我们就可以试着联系上下文辅助我们搞清具体含义哈~
🙈「set a large, metal object down」set sth. down表示“放下某物”。原句中就是说放下那个大型的金属(metal)物体。再来一例：Please set the box down.（请放下那个箱子。）
🙈「removing itself in sections」这里“removing”表示这个动作和前面的“open”同时发生，用来说明外壳的情况~飞船上放下来的东西开始打开了，它的外壳（outer casing）自动移开分成了几块(in sections)。这里object就可以联系上文发现是飞船上放下的那个金属玩意儿咯~
🙈「as if」as if是英文中十分高频的短语，表示“似乎，好像”，经常可以和as though互换使用，二者用法和功能都完全相同。举个例子：It is as if/as though it is going to rain. （好像要下雨了。）
🙈一艘宇宙飞船从天而降，好奇的WALL•E悄悄地靠近，看到飞船放下来一个大型的金属的东西，这个金属的东西外壳自动移开分成了几块，就好像里面放在什么贵重的东西。
🐶7.Afraid, but also delighted by EVE, the rusty and damaged WALL•E unit kept watching this smooth and shiny new state-of-the-art robot. This was love.
🙈「Afraid, but also delighted by EVE」这里是用来说明WALL·E的内心状态，既害怕又开心（delighted）。
🙈「keep doing sth.」 表示“持续做某事”, 这里「kept watching」表示“一直盯着看”。举个例子：I will keep reading with MintReading .（我一直在薄荷阅读读书。）；「state-of-the-art」 表示“最高端的，最先进的”，举个例子: iPhone X is considered the state-of-the art in design.
🙈这里采用了对比的手法，故意展现的WALL•E破败的一面和EVE外表的美丽。两个机器人在外形上存在着不小的差，但是看来对于WALL•E来说，外表根本不是问题啊。
🐶8.She had just tried to blow him up, but like a pet dog, he continued to follow her, unable to stop.
🙈「tried to blow him up」其中try to do sth “尝试做某事”，比如“Try to relax.”（试着放松点。）其中blow something up在这里指“炸掉…”，举个例子：The terrorist(恐怖分子) tries to blow this airport up.
🙈「but like a pet dog」在这里做插入语，对前面的内容有补充说明的作用。这里补充说明WALL•E像宠物狗一样跟着EVE，不能停下。
🙈EVE刚刚才试着要把他炸成碎片，但是WALL•E还是像只宠物狗一样跟着她，不能停下。我们的WALL•E宝宝是真的爱上EVE啦~
